A software-defined data centre for Thailand’s largest university campus
Net Bright designed and implemented Cisco HyperFlex and Cisco ACI for Kasetsart University — the first site in Thailand to run ACI — with Firepower next-generation firewalls folded into the same policy model.

The challenge
A university data centre carries an unusual mix of load: student registration that spikes hard for a few days each term, e-learning that runs constantly, research workloads that behave nothing like either, and administrative systems that cannot be taken down for any of it.
Running those on a traditional network meant that every new system arrived with its own segmentation request, its own firewall rules and its own change window. The security policy and the network policy were maintained separately, which is slow and, over time, inconsistent.
What we built
Net Bright designed and implemented Cisco HyperFlex all-flash together with Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure for the software-defined data centre.
ACI is built on the Cisco Nexus 9000 switch family with the Application Policy Infrastructure Controller as a single control point. APIC configures policy on every switch in the fabric, so segmentation is expressed once — by application and by business requirement — rather than device by device.
Cisco Firepower next-generation firewalls were integrated into the same APIC controller, putting network and security policy under one orchestration point. With Firepower NGIPS, AVC and AMP in that path, detection and mitigation of advanced attacks became automated rather than manual.
The result
Registration and e-learning run faster and more smoothly across the fabric, and new services can be brought up without renegotiating the network underneath them.
The site was the largest education deployment of its kind in Thailand at the time and the first in the country to run Cisco ACI.
