Leading hospitals run their clinical systems behind Kemp LoadMaster

Hospital systems cannot be taken offline during clinic hours. Net Bright deploys Progress Kemp LoadMaster in front of the HIS, imaging and portal tiers so a failed server, a patched server or a busy morning is absorbed before anyone at a counter notices.

Application delivery and high availability for hospital systems

The challenge

A hospital does not have a maintenance window in the way an office does. Registration, the hospital information system, imaging and the patient portal are all in use while the clinic is open, and the moment one of them stalls the queue at the counter stops moving.

Most of these systems were never designed to run in pairs. Publishing them from a single server makes the whole clinical day depend on that one machine — and makes routine work like patching or a certificate renewal something that has to be done at night, by hand, under pressure.

What we deploy

Progress Kemp LoadMaster sits in front of the application tier as a Layer 4/7 load balancer and application delivery controller. Traffic is spread across servers with health checks behind it, so a server that stops answering is taken out of rotation before a user meets it.

That turns maintenance into ordinary work: a node can be drained, patched and returned during the day. SSL/TLS termination moves onto LoadMaster along with certificate lifecycle management, and the built-in Web Application Firewall covers the OWASP Top 10 in the same place — one control point rather than a separate appliance per concern.

LoadMaster runs as a hardware appliance, a virtual appliance or a cloud instance, so it fits the hospital’s existing virtualisation rather than dictating it. LoadMaster 360 gives the IT team one screen for monitoring, incidents, licences and certificates.

Why hospitals keep it

The visible change is not a feature — it is that nobody rings the IT desk when a server is being worked on.

Net Bright is the authorized Progress distributor in Thailand, so licensing, renewals and vendor escalation stay with the same team that designed the deployment. For a hospital that matters more than it sounds: when something is wrong at nine in the morning, there is no argument about whose problem it is.
